John Fairfield
Dr. John D. Fairfield is a Professor in the History Department at Xavier University, specializing in U.S. history and urban history. With a background in law and experience living and working in New York City, Dr. Fairfield developed a passion for cities, which is reflected in his teaching and research. He has designed courses with an urban focus and has been involved in various programs at Xavier, including the Philosophy, Politics, and the Public honors program and the Master of Arts in Urban Sustainability and Resilience. Dr. Fairfield's scholarship focuses on urban planning, public space, and civic culture, with publications such as "The Mysteries of the Great City" and "The Public and Its Possibilities." He is currently working on a project titled "Green Populism: From Urban Sustainability to Regional Resilience." Outside of academia, Dr. Fairfield enjoys activities like building, gardening, cycling, and cooking.
