The John E. Weaver and Aaron Douglas Professorships for Teaching Excellence at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln were established in 2008 to honor faculty members with the rank of full professor who exhibit exceptional teaching skills and national recognition for their instructional work. Recipients of these professorships, which come with a $5,000 stipend, can choose between the Weaver or Douglas designation. John E. Weaver, a renowned plant ecologist, and Aaron Douglas, a prominent artist of the Harlem Renaissance, are the namesakes of these prestigious professorships. The professorships are awarded for five-year terms and can be renewed after a review in the fifth year.
