Dr. Andrea Kleinsmith
Dr. Andrea Kleinsmith is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Systems at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and serves as the director of the Interactive Systems Research Center and the Affective Behavior Interaction Lab. Her research focuses on affective computing and human-computer interaction, particularly in real-world simulation training and education scenarios. She investigates the impact of stress and anxiety on trainees during training, as well as the effect of communication technology on cognitive load. Dr. Kleinsmith aims to develop interactive systems that enhance trainees' self-reflection to improve training outcomes and understanding of affective phenomena. She has a background in Computer Science, with a PhD from University College London, an MSc from the University of Aizu in Japan, and a BA in Psychology from the University of Oregon.
