John Edwards
John Edwards is an Associate Professor of Economics at Tulane University's Stone Center with a specialization in microeconomics and a focus on Latin America. He is bilingual in Spanish and English, fluent in Portuguese, and holds a B.S. from Georgetown University and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Maryland. With over 30 years of field experience in the region, his research primarily explores the intersection of education and poverty, including the unintended consequences of existing policies on poverty levels and indigenous cultures. Edwards also investigates energy use and its impact on the poor in Latin America, as well as financial exclusion among marginalized groups. He has received various grants and awards for his work and has published extensively on topics related to economic development, disaster resilience, and environmental sustainability.
