Jin Liu is an esteemed associate professor of Chinese at the School of Modern Languages at Georgia Institute of Technology. With a Ph.D. in East Asian Literature and Culture from Cornell University, she has carved a niche for herself in the academic world through her profound research and teaching contributions. Her scholarly pursuits are deeply rooted in contemporary Chinese popular culture, with a keen focus on language, sound, voice, and music. Liu is the author of the insightful book "Signifying the Local: Media Productions Rendered in Local Languages in Mainland China in the New Millennium," which explores the nuances of media and language in modern China. Her work has been widely recognized, with numerous articles published in prestigious peer-reviewed journals, reflecting her dedication to advancing the understanding of Chinese culture and language. In her role at Georgia Tech, Liu not only teaches Chinese language and culture but also serves as the Director of the Chinese program. She is instrumental in leading the Chinese LBAT, the School of Modern Languages' intensive summer Chinese language program in China, which provides students with immersive learning experiences. Her commitment to education is evident in the multiple teaching awards she has received, including the Georgia Tech CETL/BP Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence award in 2012. Liu's excellence in teaching has been consistently acknowledged by her students, earning her the Institute-wide award for "Student Recognition of Excellence in Teaching" in 2012, 2014, 2018, 2021, and 2022.
