Jeffrey Benson

Jeffrey S. Benson serves as an Associate Professor of Music & Dance and the Director of Choral Activities at San José State University. With a robust academic background, Dr. Benson earned his Ph.D. in Choral Conducting & Music Education from Florida State University in 2011. Prior to that, he completed his Master of Music in Music Education in 2005 and a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from New York University in 2000. Dr. Benson's choirs have graced some of the most prestigious stages in the United States, including The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, The White House, and the Washington National Cathedral. His collaborations extend to working with illustrious ensembles such as the Rolling Stones and the Skywalker Orchestra, showcasing his versatility and excellence in choral conducting. An active participant in the music community, Dr. Benson is involved with organizations like the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and the National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO). His contributions to the field have been recognized with accolades, including the ACDA's inaugural Colleen Kirk Award, which honors outstanding achievement by a young conductor. In addition to his conducting prowess, Dr. Benson is a published composer and arranger. His works are available through Colla Voce Music and Santa Barbara Music Publishing, reflecting his creative talents and dedication to advancing choral music. His compositions and arrangements are well-regarded in the choral community, further cementing his reputation as a multifaceted musician.
