

Jinku Kim
Jinku Kim is an Assistant Professor of Practice in Emerging Media Arts at the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, part of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. With over 15 years of experience as an educator and multidisciplinary artist, Kim has made significant contributions to the fields of audio-visual production and digital arts. His expertise encompasses a wide range of areas, including audio-visual performance and installations, hardware and software design, site-specific projects, digital modeling, and fabrication. Kim's academic journey is as diverse as his professional career. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Music and Multimedia from Brown University, where he delved into the intricate relationships between sound, technology, and visual media. Prior to that, he completed an M.F.A. in Integrated Media and Experimental Sound Practice at the California Institute of the Arts, further honing his skills in innovative media arts. His foundational studies in music were undertaken at Berklee College of Music, where he received a B.M. in Professional Music with a focus on Electronic Production and Design. Throughout his career, Kim has been dedicated to teaching and mentoring students at both undergraduate and graduate levels. He has developed and taught courses such as audio-visual narrative and hardware/software instrument design, equipping students with the skills necessary to excel in the rapidly evolving field of digital arts. His pedagogical approach emphasizes creativity, technical proficiency, and the exploration of new media technologies. Kim's artistic works have been showcased at numerous prestigious venues, reflecting his status as a respected figure in the art community. His projects have been featured at REDCAT, the Whitney Museum of American Art, STEIM, and The New Children's Museum, among others. These exhibitions highlight his ability to blend technology and art seamlessly, creating immersive experiences that challenge and engage audiences. In addition to his teaching and artistic endeavors, Kim is actively involved in research that pushes the boundaries of audio-visual production and digital arts. His research interests include exploring new methodologies for integrating sound and visual media, as well as developing innovative tools and techniques for creative expression. Through his work, Kim continues to contribute to the advancement of emerging media arts, inspiring both his students and peers in the process.
