Florencia Sangermano

Assistant Professor at Geography, Clark University0 Followers

Advancing the state of knowledge in geography and environmental science, Florencia Sangermano serves as an Assistant Professor at Clark University, where she is a part of the Geography department and the International Development, Community, and Environment (IDCE) program. Her academic journey began in Argentina, where she earned her B.Sc./M.Sc. equivalent (Licenciatura) in Biology from Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata. She later pursued her M.A. and Ph.D. in Geography at Clark University, further solidifying her expertise in spatial analysis and environmental studies. Professor Sangermano's research is deeply rooted in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing technologies to address pressing ecological and conservation issues. Her work in landscape ecology and soundscape ecology provides innovative insights into the health of various habitats, particularly focusing on the Brazilian Atlantic forest. Her current research projects are particularly concerned with the impacts of deforestation, fragmentation, and forest regeneration on zoonotic spillover risks, a critical area of study given the global implications for biodiversity and human health. In addition to her research, Professor Sangermano is dedicated to teaching and mentoring students, guiding them through the complexities of spatial analysis and its applications in real-world conservation efforts. Her courses often integrate cutting-edge technologies and methodologies, preparing students to tackle environmental challenges with a comprehensive and informed approach. Professor Sangermano's work has been recognized for its contribution to understanding the intricate relationships between human activities and ecological systems. Her innovative use of soundscapes as a tool for monitoring habitat health exemplifies her commitment to developing new methods for environmental assessment and conservation planning. Through her research and teaching, Florencia Sangermano continues to influence the field of geography, inspiring a new generation of scholars and practitioners to engage with the dynamic and interconnected world of environmental science. Her contributions are not only advancing academic knowledge but also providing practical solutions to some of the most urgent environmental issues of our time.
