Kurt Thurmaier

Professor Kurt M. Thurmaier is a distinguished scholar conducting research in the fields of public budgeting, citizen engagement, local government collaboration, and intergovernmental relations. As the Distinguished Engagement Professor and Chair of the Department of Public Administration at Northern Illinois University, he has made significant contributions to the academic community and beyond. His work extends to public management networks and comparative public administration, areas in which he has developed a profound understanding and expertise. Appointed as a National Academy of Public Administration Fellow in 2018, Professor Thurmaier is actively involved with the Academy's Standing Panel on Intergovernmental Systems and the Africa Working Group. Professor Thurmaier's academic journey began at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned his B.A. and M.P.P.A.
