Rick Miranda

Rick Miranda takes a creative approach to solving problems in the field of mathematics, leveraging his extensive academic and administrative experience to foster innovation and excellence at Colorado State University (CSU). With a B.A. from the College of the Holy Cross and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Miranda has been a pivotal figure at CSU since joining the faculty in 1982. Throughout his tenure, Dr. Miranda has held numerous influential positions, demonstrating his leadership and commitment to advancing the university's mission. He has served as Chair of the Department of Mathematics, where he played a crucial role in enhancing the department's academic offerings and research capabilities. His leadership extended to the College of Natural Sciences, where he served as Dean, focusing on interdisciplinary collaboration and student success. Dr. Miranda's administrative acumen was further recognized when he was appointed Provost and Executive Vice President, roles in which he oversaw academic policies and initiatives across the university. His strategic vision and dedication to academic excellence were instrumental in his subsequent appointment as System Chief Academic Officer, where he worked to align the academic goals of the CSU system. In June 2022, Dr. Miranda was named interim president of CSU, a testament to his deep understanding of the university's culture and his ability to guide it through periods of transition. His leadership was further solidified in February 2023 when he assumed the role of Executive Vice President, continuing to influence the strategic direction of the institution. Dr. Miranda's career is marked by a commitment to fostering an environment of academic rigor and innovation.
