John David York is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Pharmacology & Cancer Biology at Duke University School of Medicine. His research focuses on cellular communication networks and the role of inositol signaling in human disease. He has identified new roles for "orphan" inositol phosphate messengers in membrane trafficking, cytoskeletal organization, gene expression, and mRNA export, and has uncovered a novel family of lithium targets relevant to manic depressive disease. His work has led to a revision of the classic paradigm of inositol signaling and opened up new areas of research in understanding how diverse stimuli utilize these pathways to achieve specific cellular responses.
